Alessandro Gualtieri

"There are always ups and downs in every field of life. That's life. The nicest and most precious part about being an independent creator is freedom. The toughest part is also the freedom."

Affectionately known as "The Nose," Alessandro Gualtieri is the enfant terrible of the fragrance world. An Italian-born provocateur based in Amsterdam, Gualtieri has spent over three decades dismantling the traditional rules of perfumery. After years of designing for giants like Fendi and Versace, he sought total creative autonomy, founding Nasomatto and Orto Parisi. His philosophy is one of subversive uniqueness; he famously keeps his formulas secret, believing that a fragrance should be experienced emotionally rather than analyzed technically.

From the dark, resinous cult-classic Black Afgano to the animalic explorations of Orto Parisi, Gualtieri’s work is characterized by extreme longevity, raw power, and a daring focus on the "human" and "earthy" side of existence. Whether he is hosting blindfolded launch parties in Amsterdam’s red-light district or filming his quest for "the perfect mistake" in the documentary Blamage, Gualtieri remains a master of the provocative, transforming every scent into a holistic, sensory disruption.

Gualtieri’s recent releases continue to challenge the status quo, focusing on high-concentration Extrait de Parfum that pushes the boundaries of woody, leathery, and ambery profiles: Orto Parisi Risvelium, Nasomatto Sadonaso, Orto Parisi Cuoium, Nasomatto Fantomas, and Orto Parisi Megamare.
