Alexandra Carlin

"I see materials as words. That's how you memorise them in perfumery, literary or not,"

Alexandra Carlin is a storyteller who uses raw materials as her vocabulary. Originally set on a path toward literature, a chance radio interview with a perfumer at age 18 redirected her narrative from the page to the bottle. A graduate of ISIPCA, Carlin spent years honing her craft at Robertet in Grasse and Symrise before her prestigious appointment in late 2024 as Senior Fine Fragrance Perfumer at IFF in Paris.

Her creative process is deeply synaesthetic, drawing from movement arts like Indian dance and horseback riding to find the "rhythm" of a scent. Carlin is celebrated for her ability to translate atmosphere and emotion into complex structures, often layering unusual materials like immortelle or tonka to create fragrances that reveal themselves like chapters in a book. Whether working with luxury powerhouses or independent niche houses, her style remains "under construction"—a testament to her constant curiosity and evolving artistic voice.

Carlin’s 2025–2026 portfolio highlights her transition to IFF and her continued dominance in the niche and "Elixir" categories: Rabanne Invictus Elixir (2026), BDK Vanille Caviar (2025), Acqua di Parma Luce di Rosa, Bottega Veneta Come With Me, and Amouage Dia 40 Woman.
